Common Types of Boilers
The most common type of boiler in the UK is called a combi boiler. With this type of boiler, the unit supplies hot water for your taps directly and also heats the water circulating throughout your central heating system. Combi boilers work well for smaller homes or if you only have one bathroom, and they provide a limitless amount of hot water on demand. With hot water coming directly from the boiler unit, there is no need for a hot water cylinder or separate cold water tank, which is a great space saver.
A conventional boiler is often better for larger homes because heated water is circulated around the radiators and to the hot water cylinder to heat the water therein, where it is stored for use. A third type of boiler that may be used is called a system boiler. This type of boiler is similar to a conventional boiler, but it has some external parts that are built in. Like a conventional boiler, a system boiler takes up more space than a more compact combi boiler.
